What Does This Procedure Involve?

This surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The patient lies on their back, and the surgeon uses small cuts in the front of the lower neck to access the damaged disc(s). Magnification tools and x-rays are then used to visualize the neck’s structures, and the damaged disc(s) is gently removed, as are any adjacent bone spurs. The removed sections are reconstructed with bone grafts or artificial disc(s), and then the spinal column is fixed with hardware if necessary for ongoing stability.

This minimally invasive approach to cervical decompression and fusion allows for less bleeding and surgical trauma, shorter hospital stays, faster recovery, and high overall success rates in providing relief of symptoms, particularly radiating arm pain.
