It’s natural to be worried about your or a loved one’s upcoming back or neck surgery, and normal to seek out the wisdom of others who have gone before. While many people choose to keep their medical procedures private, some celebrities have gone public with their recent surgical procedures. Here are some updates on famous celebrities who have had neck or back surgery recently, to help set your mind at ease about yours.
Tyson Kidd: Neck Surgery After Wrestling Injury
You may remember hearing about Tyson Kidd, WWE wrestler, and his neck injury in a match against Samoa Joe. Kidd recently had neck fusion surgery, and according to Still Real To Us, the surgery was a success! Since neck fusion surgery takes a while to heal, don’t expect to see Kidd in the wrestling ring again any time soon. His doctors have given him an estimate of 14 months’ recuperation time.
The reason it takes a year or more for full recuperation is that this type of neck surgery involves a bone graft. The graft needs to solidify and adhere to the adjacent bone, which takes several months. It will be a while before powerbombs and headbutts are allowed, but Kidd should be up to regular daily activities soon.
Julio Iglesias: Minor Back Surgery
Spanish singer Julio Iglesias had what was described as a “minor back surgery” recently. Apparently the 71-year-old needed to have the procedure done after a routine check-up. We’re not sure exactly what procedure he needed, but his doctors have imposed a rest period, after which time Iglesias is expected to make a full recovery.
It’s important to remember that while some back surgery procedures are very involved, others are minimally invasive and come with a shorter recuperation time. Be sure to ask your surgeon how long you should expect to heal before you resume your regular activities.
Bruno Sammartino: Another WWE Legend Had Back Surgery
Another WWE legend, Hall-of-Famer Bruno Sammartino, also had back surgery recently. Before his surgery, Sammartino was in the hospital with back pain for about a month. Now that he has had his procedure, he is home resting and recuperating. SportsKeeda.com reports that he’s comfortable now and is looking forward to 100% recovery.
Those struggling with persistent back or neck pain should see their doctors, as it’s very possible that a surgical procedure can relieve the discomfort and allow a return to a full life.
